Can’t find your dipstick? It’s not you; your car may not have one.
The ole dipstick is quickly becoming a thing of the past. With manufacturers removing dipsticks, drivers will have to depend on the oil sensor to detect when oil is low. Cars have had oil lights on the dash for years, and we can’t tell you how many people ignore the light, so time will tell if this change will affect many people. Your car’s wires may be insulated with soy-based material.
Manufacturers moved to a soy base insulation for wire primarily for two reasons.
1. The material is less expensive.
2. It’s considered more environmentally friendly.
Both are legitimate reasons, but the downside is the risk of some pesky little friends who will enjoy munching on the soy insulations as a meal. Having a rodent eat your wiring insulation is not covered under warranty and can result in some costly repairs. Some service departments may offer to wrap your wires with rodent-resistant tape—words out on how effective this tape is.
