The Brake System

What your brake system is comprised of will depend on the year, make, and model of your vehicle. Here are some common components:

  • Brake pedal
  • Brake booster/hydro booster
  • Brake master cylinder
  • Brake lines and hoses
  • Brake calipers and pistons
  • Disc brake pads or shoes
  • Disc brake rotors or drums
  • Brake fluid
  • Anti-lock brake system (ABS) control module
  • Wheel speed sensor

Signs of Bad Brakes

Here are some signs your brakes may need to be looked at, remember to always follow factory recommendations.

  • Squealing, squeaking, or grinding when the brakes are engaged
  • Vibration in the peddle or steering wheel
  • The brake pad is less than a quarter (1/4) inch thick.
  • Low brake fluid.
  • The brake light is on-not recommended you wait for this light to come if you are experiencing other signs.
