So, your car won’t start… don’t panic! If your battery is dead, a jumpstart can get you back on the road—but ONLY if it’s done safely. Follow these steps carefully to avoid damage or injury.
What You’ll Need:
✅ Jumper cables
✅ Another car with a working battery
✅ A safe place to park (turn both cars off)
Step-by-Step Jumpstart Guide:
1️⃣ Position the cars – Park the working car close enough for cables to reach, but DO NOT let the cars touch.
2️⃣ Connect the jumper cables in this exact order:
🔴 RED to DEAD – Attach the red (+) cable to the dead battery’s positive terminal.
🔴 RED to GOOD – Attach the other red (+) cable to the good battery’s positive terminal.
⚫ BLACK to GOOD – Attach the black (-) cable to the good battery’s negative terminal.
⚫ BLACK to METAL – Attach the other black (-) cable to an unpainted metal surface on the dead car (NOT the battery).
3️⃣ Start the working car – Let it run for a few minutes to charge the dead battery.
4️⃣ Start the dead car – If it doesn’t start, wait a few more minutes and try again.
5️⃣ Remove cables in reverse order:
⚫ BLACK from METAL
⚫ BLACK from GOOD battery
🔴 RED from GOOD battery
🔴 RED from DEAD battery
6️⃣ Let your car run for at least 15 minutes to recharge the battery before driving.
🚨 Safety Tips 🚨
⚠️ NEVER let the red and black cables touch—this can cause sparks or damage.
⚠️ If the battery is cracked, leaking, or smells like rotten eggs, STOP—it could be dangerous.
⚠️ If your car won’t start after multiple attempts, the problem may not be the battery. Call a professional.
